Description
This is a Fine Vintage Litho Print of theU.S. Air Force F-86D Sabre Jet
(Sabrejet) that dominated "MIG Alley" during the Korean War. This is an Original Company-Issued Poster of nearly 70 years ago. This Aircraft was powered by a General Electric J47 Turbojet Engine,
the F-86 was the first United States Swept Wing Fighter Plane
. It's first flight was in 1947, and North American Aviation produced over 9,000 of these fighter planes. The Version "D" Sabre Jet was an improvement over the prior Sabre Jet version, and designed as an interceptor. Redesigned as an All Weather Fighter Bomber that replaced the classic gun armament with Air-to-Air Missiles. The F-86D's Air Intake was reshaped to make room for the enclosed Radar. It carried a retractable tray of 24 Rockets that could be fired automatically. North American delivered 2,506 Model "D" Sabre Jets before production ended in Sept., 1953; they were then phased out by the USAF by 1961. Later models of the F-86 Sabre Jet aircraft were finally retired in 1980, though some other allied countries continued to fly them.
Condition of this lithographed Poster Print is excellent. It measures 15" x 12 1/4" and its wide white border makes it an excellent candidate for framing. The only flaw is the lower right corner of the white border is wrinkled, as shown, but does not extend into the corner of the image.
