Description
I believe this is a Kitty Hawk class carrier, which would make this the USS Constellation. This was the F/A 18's first carrier deployment, and given the information below I believe I have pinpointed the unit as VFA-25 with planes from VFA-125, possibly training for their first flight aboard an aircraft carrier as they still have the RAG tail code from VFA-125. Someone correct me if this is wrong.Measures 8x 10
"F/A-18A Hornet (Bureau Number 161955) entered fleet service in 1984 with assignment to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 25. The airplane spent the ensuing six years with the “Fists of the Fleet,” joining VFA-113 in making the first operational deployment of the F/A-18 Hornet during a cruise in the carrier Constellation (CV 64)."
"Navy Carrier-based Aircraft with an NJ tailcode denote a Fleet Replacement squadron (training) "the RAG" of the pacific fleet. The Legacy Hornet RAG's (VFA-125 "Rough Raiders") Hornets fall under Modex Numbers in the NJ-300 (single seat) and NJ-400 (2 seater) range. VFA-122 "Flying Eagles", the Pacific Fleet's Super Hornet RAG fall under the modex number ranges NJ-100 (F model) and NJ-200 (E model). Both are based at NAS Lemoore near Fresno, California."
