Joe Cotton Test Pilot NASA XB-70 Autograph Signed Cover

Colonel Joseph Cotton [1922 2016] was a military officer, WW II bomber pilot, and noted test pilot of the 1950's and 60's. Cotton was a veteran Army Air Force bomber pilot in the European theater of war who was shot down over Greece. Cotton evaded capture for over 40 days until he was rescued. In 1944 he began his test pilot career flying the Bell RP-63A aircraft. After the war he became the chief of Bomber Testing at Wright Patterson and flew many of the experimental aircraft of the era, including the first flight of the XB-70 which he took to Mach 3.08 and an altitude of 72,000 feet. Listed for auction is the autograph of Joseph Cotton signed on a commemorative cover. The cover is imprinted with the image of a X-1 rocket plane and the autograph is signed ''Joe Cotton XB-70 Pilot'' in black felt pen. The cover is postmarked Edwards AFB. CA, Oct. 14, 1997, and is affixed with an aviation related U.S postage stamp. The cover measures 6.50 x 3.50 inches and is in fine condition. The autograph is authentic, and the cover is a desirable example of this noted test pilot.
