F-14 Tomcats served as the backbone of the US Navy’s fighter fleet for a quarter century, with the final examples updated F-14D Super Tomcat capable of air superiority as well as ground support roles. This is a Tomcat from VF-213 "Black Lions" off the USS Carl Vinson in 2002. The Tomcats are now retired, but live still in many memories as the quintessential modern fighter thanks to the movie "Top Gun."
